On June 11, the Aotan-1 well, which set a new record for the deepest vertical depth in an Asian carbonate reservoir high-angle well, was completed. This well utilized Rongsheng Company's independently developed 35-105 and 28-140 #blowoutpreventer (#BOP) sets. After more than eight months of rigorous testing in complex geological conditions and extreme environments, these #BOP sets effectively ensured drilling safety and successfully supported Daqing Oilfield's new Asia record with a vertical depth of 9,416.6 meters.
Located in the Manxi Fold Belt of the Tarim Basin, the Aotan-1 well is a key ultra-deep risk exploration well deployed by PetroChina in the Ta Dong exploration area of Daqing. Drilling commenced on October 15, 2023, and the well penetrated nine geological strata, including the Quaternary, Tertiary, Cretaceous, and Triassic formations. The complex geological conditions and high engineering demands required meticulous planning.
To safely drill this record-setting well in Asia, the operators targeted geological and engineering challenges, simulating potential downhole conditions in advance. Based on drilling requirements and geological data, Rongsheng Company's 54-70, 35-105, and 28-140 #BOP sets were used to handle different ultra-high temperature, ultra-high pressure, and ultra-deep conditions. These BOP sets played a critical role throughout the drilling process, withstanding multiple overflow tests and demonstrating exceptional reliability, earning unanimous praise from the users.
